KABUL‘s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Senior Minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour was assassinated in the bombing in the Qissa Khwani neighbourhood of Peshawar late on Saturday. His personal assistant and a police officer were also killed in the blast, claimed by the Pakistani Taliban.

In a statement from his office, the UN secretary general expressed grief over the killings. Ban said he stood by the government and people of Pakistan in their fight against terrorism and assured support from the United Nations.

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari said Bilour’s sacrifice would not go in vain and promised his government would continue fighting against the militant mindset. He said hailed the courage the minister often demonstrated against the militants.
