7 dead in Waziristan drone strikes

Jan 08, 2013 - 10:37

ISLAMABAD (PANinfo-icon): Seven suspected militants were killed in fresh US drone attacks in Pakistaninfo-icon’s troubled North Waziristan tribal region near the Afghanistaninfo-icon border, an official said on Tuesday.

The first air strike took place at around 12 noon when a CIA-operated drone fired four missiles into a house in the Haidarkhel area in the vicinity of Mir Ali town, killing seven individuals and injuring three others.

A local security official said on condition of anonymity the second raid occurred at around 1am when the pilotless aircraft targeted another house in the Hasokhel area of the town, killing three people.

He added identities of the victims were yet to be established, given the remote location of the region -- a militant hotbed that has seen many US drone attacks despite strong protests from Pakistan.

A local reporter, Yousuf Haroon, told Pajhwok Afghan News the bodies of the victims were mutilated beyond recognition and the compounds comprehensively damaged as a result of the strikes.
