KABUL’s volatile northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Saturday, media reports said.

Bashir Khan Umerzai and son Shakil Umerzai, also a member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, came under attack in their native town in Charsadda district, according to private TV channels, monitored in Kabul.

Geo News said after the remote-controlled blast, police rushed to the site, about 10 kilometres from the district centre. Rescuers shifted the injured to hospital.

At least three policemen were among those injured in the blast that occurred near a convoy of the Awami National Party (ANP) leader in Khan Ghari village. District Coordination Officer Zafar Ali Shah confirmed 14 people were wounded in the attack.

A day earlier, hundreds of Hazara community members staged a sit-in in Quetta and refused to bury their dead until the army took control of the southwestern city, where 104 people were killed in a string of bombings two days back.

Funerals for the dead were to take place after Friday prayers, but the bodies remained unburied till late Friday night. The minority Hazaras called for the removal of the provincial government and handover the city’s control to the army.
