KUNDUZ CITY (PAN): Nearly 190 welfare schemes, benefitting over 42,000 families, were executed under the National Solidarity Programme (NSP) in northern Kunduz province, an official said on Sunday.

The projects included graveling of 90 kilometres rural roads, construction of 522 small bridges, two water canals and 338 drinking water wells, the urban development director said.

Eng. Abdul Rab Hakimi told Pajhwok Afghan News 15 meeting halls, a 12-km power line and a five-km protective wall were also among the projects

The schemes were implemented in Imam Sahib and Dasht-i-Archi districts and parts of Kunduz City at a cost of 247 million afs ($ 479,054), the official said.

Abdul Samad, from the Alif Birdi village of Imam Sahib, said: “A three kilometres road and eight small bridges have been built in our area under NSP, resolving people’s problems.”

But Mustafa, who belongs to the Qarlq village of Dasht-i-Archi district, alleged: “Over past few years, local officials and council members have been pocketing the money meant for projects.”
