NDS agents, rebel leader among 10 killed

KABUL commander and seven militants were killed in separate incidents in the three provinces of the country, officials said on Wednesday.

The intelligence operatives were killed in a blast and an insurgent attack in the Tirinkot, the main city of central Uruzgan province, NDS official Col. Khan Mohammad.

Two NDS officials were killed while defusing a roadside bomb and a third was shot dead by fighters. A Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, claimed responsibility both for the blast and shooting.

One rebel leader was killed during a joint military operation by the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and Afghan forces in the Dagi area of Batikot district in eastern Nangarhar province on Wednesday.

Mirza Mohammad Nasrat, the district’s administrative head, confirmed the joint offensive and the militant commander’s killing to Pajhwok Afghan News. However, he gave no further details.

Abdul Hadi, who led insurgent activities in the district, was killed in the operation, said Samiullah, a resident of the district. A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, also confirmed the death.

Separately, three guerrillas were killed and as many policemen wounded in a clash the Marja-Nad Ali highway in southern Helmand province, said the deputy coordinator at police headquarters, Mohammad Ismail Hotak.

Also in Nad Ali town, three more insurgents were killed and four others wounded during a NATO-led airstrike, said the district police chief, Omar Jan Haqmal.
