Policeman shoots dead ALP commander

KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): An Afghan Local Police (ALP) member killed his commander and poisoned several of his colleagues in southern Kandahar province on Wednesday, an official said.

The predawn incident took place at an ALP checkpoint in the Sperawan area of Panjwai district, the town’s administrative head told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Haji Fazal Mohammad Ishaqzai the policeman with links to the insurgents, after poisoning his partners, also shot dead the ALP commander as soon as he reached the post.

Following the shooting, the killer managed to escape, taking away a number of police weapons. Efforts were underway to arrest the escapee, Ishaqzai added.

The poisoned policemen under medical treatment at a local hospital, according to the district chief, who said their condition was stable.
