SHARAN (PAN): The governor of southeastern Paktika province on Friday urged insurgents to join the ongoing national reconciliation programme and help rebuild the country.

Mohibullah Samim issued the call at a well-attended gathering, attended by tribal elders, provincial council members, youth and peace panel and police chiefs, in Yousafkhel district.

Samim’s spokesman Mukhlis Afghan told Pajhwok Afghan News the High Peace Council head for Paktika, Ibrahim Afzali, briefed participants on the importance of people’s role in the reconciliation effort.

Some tribal elders linked the ongoing wave of unrest in the country to interference from neighbouring countries, regretting the destruction of schools, bridges, hospitals, roads and hospitals in what they called senseless attacks.
