Weapons turned in to DIAG

KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): One hundred and fifteen weapons were handed over to the Disbandment of Illegal Armed Groups (DIAG) in southern Kandahar province on Sunday, an official said.

Ghulam Jilani Katawazai, a provincial police officer, told Pajhwok Afghan News the weapons had been collected during search operations over the past four months.

He said the arms included 33 Kalashnikovs, two machine guns, six rocket-propelled grenades (PRG) 27 pistols and ammunition.

Gen. Abdul Qaem Popal, DIAG programme head in Kandahar, said the weapons in serviceable condition would be used by the Afghan National Army (ANA), while the rest would be destroyed.
