LG launches sales in Kabul

KABUL): LG Electronics officially launched the sale of its products in the central capital Kabul, with a representative of the company promising international-standard items for its customers.

Abdul Wahid Ali Khan, who speaks for the South Korean electronics giant, admitted at a news conference they had been selling products over the past six years in Afghanistan without any official announcement.

He said they sold refrigerators, televisions, digital video disc (DVD) players, vacuum cleaners, clothes washing machines, air-coolers and other products with a one-year warranty in Afghanistan.

Khan said if customers found an LG product dubious, they could contact the firm’s customer service or call its representatives home to fix the problem.

Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) deputy head Khan Jan Alkozai said traders should take advantage of the opportunity that he believed would familarise people with modern-day products and promote foreign investments.

“The ACCI is interested in having a modern business system matching international standards,” remarked the trader representative.

The LG representative claimed the company planned opening its sale points in Kandahar, Herat, Nangarhar, Balkh and Kunduz provinces during this Afghan calendar year. The investment would provide employment opportunities to 300 people, he added.
