FARAH CITY (PAN): The Qala Kah district police chief and another officer were killed in a roadside bombing in the in the western province of Farah, officials said on Sunday.

The incident took place on Saturday night when the Captain Zmarai Farahi’s vehicle struck a roadside bomb in the Kang village of the district, the provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Aqa Noor Kintoz, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the police officers wanted to defuse a roadside bomb in the village, but they encountered militants and their vehicle struck the roadside bomb while returning after the clash.

Abdul Hadi Kashif, the district chief, said the police officer had received a report that the insurgents wanted to attack a police checkpoint in the village. He was patrolling the area when his vehicle hit the bomb.

No one has so far claimed responsibility for the bombing.
