KABUL): The Republic of Korea donated food and blankets through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) to deserving families in western Faryab province on Sunday.
At a ceremony at the Korean embassy in Kabul, Afghan authorities were handed over 212 sacks of rice, 193 sacks of soybean, 265 boxes of cooking oil, 1,060 boxes of milk and 579 blankets as part of humanitarian assistance.
The relief items would be distributed to victims of flash floods in Faryab in 2012, a statement from the Korean embassy said.
Abdul Wahab, provincial head of the Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA), received the donation. He appreciated the Korean people’s sincerity and sympathy to the flood victims.
Meanwhile, at the handover ceremony, Kim Chang-mo of the Korean embassy hoped: “Our donation will alleviate the suffering of disaster-affected people of Faryab.”
He promised: ”The Korean government will continue to support Afghanistan in pursuing its social and economic development by tackling adversities, strengthening cooperation and enhancing friendship.”
