Commanders among 7 rebels held in Kunar

Jan 28, 2013 - 19:04

ASADABAD (PANinfo-icon):  Two commanders were among seven militants detained during a joint operation by Afghan and coalition forces in the eastern province of Kunar, officials said on Monday.

The operation was conducted by Afghan and the International Security Assistance Force (ISAFinfo-icon) in the mountainous area of Badil in Narang district, the police spokesman, Sher Wali, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Rebel commanders Farhad and Wakil were among the detainees, he said.

But a Talibaninfo-icon spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said that three foreign and two Afghan soldiers were killed in a clash during the operation. He denied any casualties were inflicted on fighters.
