KABUL over the next two years.
The foreign ministry said the plan simultaneously underlined the importance of Afghan ownership and Denmark’s commitment to enduring support for the country.
A statement from the ministry said the programme envisaged bilateral cooperation in political, military, police training and development areas during 2013 and 2014.
Foreign Minister Dr. Zalmai Rassoul said: “Denmark has been a steady friend and partner of Afghanistan over the years and an important contributor to our historic political, economic and social achievements.”
He particularly welcomed Denmark’s emphasis on Afghan ownership, which was in perfect harmony with Afghanistan’s long-term strategy for development and self-reliance.
Denmark’s annual assistance to Afghanistan between 2013 and 2017 will remain around 530 million krones ($95.5 million), making Kabul the largest recipient of Danish development assistance.
