CHARIKAR, has been closed for traffic since late Friday when snowstorms buried the highway at five locations, officials said on Sunday.
The closure left hundreds of commuters stranded in traffic at Tajikan area of Jabal Siraj district in central Parwan province and at Malakhan area of Khinjan district in neighbouring Baghlan, the highway maintenance commander, Gen. Abdul Rajab, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said a number of avalanche incidents had clogged the highway at four locations south of the tunnel and at one location on the northern part.
“We are trying to remove the snow measured as 1.6 metre from the road which is expected to be open by Tuesday,” the official said.
