KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): Well-equipped and stronger than before Afghan security forces led 75 percent of military operations being conducted in areas in their control in southern provinces, a military commander said on Thursday.
“Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers are well-equipped and stronger compared to the past to avert insurgent activity in southern region,” Afghan National Army (ANA)’s 205th Atal Military Corps commander, Brig. Gen. Syed Waqif Shah, told a graduation ceremony for 1,006 ANA recruits in Kandahar city, the capital of southern Kandahar province. Shah said Afghan forces were capable enough to keep security nationwide beyond 2014.
The new recruits, who underwent a two-month long training course, are being deployed to Kandahar, Uruzgan and Zabul provinces, the training centre commander, Col. Haroon Momand, said.
