TIRINKOT (PANinfo-icon): Almond would be exported from central Uruzgan province to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with the support of the Australian government and the United States Agency for International Development (USAIDinfo-icon), an official said on Tuesday.

The Australian government had pledged airlifting the almond to Dubai and finding a market for the Afghan stone fruit with the cooperation of USAID, Director of Agricultureinfo-icon, Irrigation and Livestock Sardar Mohammad Aloko said.

Special machines for kernel-shell separation had been donated by the Australian government and the nuts would be sorted by womeninfo-icon workers, he said. It would jack up the price of almond and earn the province good revenue besides creating work opportunities for many, he added.

A resident of the province, Haji Bari, said that previously there had been no market for their almond products. “Now we are happy over the export of kernels to Dubai.”
