KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): Four people were killed, three injured and a school torched in separate incidents of violence over the past 24 hours in different parts of the country, officials said on Thursday.

In southern Helmand province, a school was set alight by armed rebels in Greshk district on Wednesday night, the town’s administrative chief, Ghairat Waziri, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the attackers also placed in the building explosives that went off when intelligence operatives reached the scene. As result, two National Directorate of Security agents were injured.

Educationinfo-icon Director Mohammad Nasim said that 3,314 students were enrolled in the two-shift middle school. The pupils would be affected by the arson-bomb attack on the school.

Elsewhere in the province, a man killed his sister-in-law and injured his brother in Sangin district on Thursday morning, said the district chief, Mohammad Sharif, who linked the incident to family problems.

Two more people were killed and a third injured in an armed clash among cricketers in the Khogyani district of eastern Nangarhar province, said the town’s administrative head, Syed Rahman Momand.

He said the victims, who wanted to mediate between the rival groups, suffered the casualties.

In the same district, a rebel leader -- Helmandi -- was killed during an operation by Afghan forces in Pirakhel area, said the governor’s spokesman, Ahmad Zeya Abdulzai. He added some weapons and ammunitions were also seized.
