PUL-I-KHUMRI (PAN): US forces on Tuesday said they had closed a camp in the Mangal village of Baghlan-i- Jadid district of northern Baghlan province.
The base closure on Feb. 16 was a result of Afghan National Security Forces ability to disrupt insurgent activity in the region with minimal support from coalition forces, the US military said.
Police chief Gen. Rustaqi welcomed the departure of coalition forces. “Foreign Special Forces have left, but the ANA and ANSF are providing security now.”
He added: “We were trained by the Ministry of Interior to protect the people and that is exactly what we have been doing for some time now.” Rustaqi called upon residents to support the efforts of the government.
