KABUL (PAN): A would-be suicide bomber was shot dead before reaching his target in the heavily-fortified central capital of Kabul on Sunday morning, an official said.

The shooting came hard on the heels of separate suicide car bomings that killed two intelligence operatives in Nangarhar province and a Public Order Police official in Logar province.

In Kabul, the bomber in an explosives-laden car was shot dead by security personnel in the Sherpur locality at 9am, the deputy provincial police chief,Brig. Gen. Mohammad Daud Amin, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The security personnel defused the explosives-rigged car within 30 minutes in the area, he said.

Pajhwok reporter saw a body of suicide bomber with a suicide vest, taken by security personnel from the scene.

Although the assailant’s target was not immediately known, offices of the High Peace Council, the intelligence service, some government departments and NGOs are located in the neighbourhood.
