CHARIKARinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): The Salang highway, linking Kabulinfo-icon with northern Provinces, was reopened for traffic on Friday after three days of closure, officials said.

The highway was blocked early Tuesday morning due to fear of snow slides. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded in the Tajikan area of Jabalus Saraj district of Parwan and the Malakhan area of Khinjan district of northern Baghlan province.

Jabalus Saraj traffic police head, Naeemullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News the Salang highway was reopened around 3 am today. Currently, there was no serious problem on the highway, on which passengers could easily commute.

Nearly, 72 snow avalanches took place over the past three days along the highway, said Samiullah, a Salang maintenance department official. He added the bodies of two missing employees of the department had been recovered.
