KABUL): President Hamid Karzai has renewed his call on the nation to actively participate in the ongoing spring tree plantation drive, saying every Afghan should sow at least one tree.

In a radio address to the nation aired last night, Karzai said establishing orchards, lawns and green areas was an important aspect they had to do for better environment had been lost to decades of war.

The president also urged no more construction of buildings on cultivable lands and by destroying trees.

The Kabul Municipality on Thursday launched a tree plantation drive, saying 400,000 different kind of saplings would be planted as part of reaching this year’s target of growing one million saplings.
