KABUL): As many as 16 insurgents were killed and several others were wounded during separate incidents of violence in different parts of the country over the past 24 hours, officials said on Wednesday.

Eleven Taliban fighters were killed and as many were injured during a series of security operations in the Charchino district of southern Uruzgan province, the Afghan military said.

One Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier was killed and four others sustained injuries during the operations that were carried out on Tuesday, the 205th Attal Military Corps said in a statement.

In southeastern Khost, three suspected militants were killed when a roadside bomb they were planting along a road went-off prematurely in the Mandozai district on Tuesday night, 203rd Thunder Military Corps spokesmen Cap. Abdullah told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Elsewhere in the province, a Hezb-i-Islami commander was killed during a clash with rival militants in the Nirkh district, an official said.

The clash between the rival groups broke out on Tuesday night in the Tokark area, the governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, said.

In southern Helmand, two NATO troops were injured in a roadside bombing on the Kabul-Herat highway in the Greshk district, an official said.

The blast also damaged a bridge, the district police chief, Maj. Khadi Khan, told Pajhwok Afghan News. The wounded soldiers were evacuated to an ISAF facility, he added.
