Civilian among 4 killed in gun attacks

GHAZNI CITY/SHIBERGHAN (PAN): Two bullet-riddled bodies of local policemen were brought to the civil hospital in southern Ghanzni province on Thursday, the hospital director said.

Dr. Baz Mohammad Himmat told Pajhwok Afghan News the bodies were delivered to the hospital in Ghazni city, the provincial capital, in the afternoon from the third police district. He had no further details.

A resident of the area, Ulfat, said the two policemen were shot dead by gunmen riding motorcycles.

The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the incident, with their spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi saying the dead included a local police commander, Abdul Salam.

Elsewhere, a civilian and an Afghan army soldier were killed when gunmen opened fire at a motorised rickshaw carrying them in the Aqcha district of northern Jawzjan province, an official said.

Another three occupants of the three-wheeler were wounded in the gun attack that took place in the Yangi Arikh area around 4pm, the district chief, Asadullah Bahrami, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

It appeared the target was the off-duty ANA service-member identified as Mullah Sher, who had arrived in his home town from the duty station, the Kandahar Airfield, two days ago on vacation. “The incident is being investigated by police,” the official said.

Some masked gunmen opened fire at the rickshaw and then fled, resident Mohammad Ismail said.

A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said the fighters seized the ANA soldier’s Kalashnikov after killing him in the attack.
