KABUL) on behalf of journalists on how to enable them to have access to information and properly cover next year’s presidential elections.

Nai chief Sadiqullah Tawhidi told a press conference if endorsed, the proposals would enable journalists to easily cover elections-related events. He warned a low turnout and lack of transparency could threaten the vote credibility and create new political crisis.

“The proposals include how to cover electioneering, voters’ complaints and breach of election laws, if any, during the election process,” he said, insisting media outlets would not  violate the principles of journalism in their reports.

Tawhidi said the media could play a key role in holding of transparent elections that he said would be a great achievement for the people and the government.

Khalid Orya, head of the IEC Legal Department said his department would seriously consider the proposals, saying elections were a national process and the media could help detect fraud.
