KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): The national cricket squad returned home from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to a rousing welcome on Saturday evening.

At the Kabul International Airport, government officials, the Afghan Cricket Board (ACB) chairman and scores of fans greeted the triumphant team that scored five consecutive wins over Scotland.

Skipper Mohammad Nabi Issakhel, holding aloft the cup, told Pajhwok Afghan News that after a lean patch, the team had been able to bring home laurels.

With a broad grin playing across his visage, the captain said Afghanistaninfo-icon had comprehensively trounced Scotland in all T20 and limited overs encounters, as well as the four-day match.

He ascribed the victory to better team work and the nation’s prayers. Issakhel was all praise for Nawroz Mangal, Izzatullah Dawlatzai, Samiullah Shinwari, Dawlat Zadran, Shahzad Mohammadi and Rahmat Shah Zurmati.

ACB Chairman Shahzada Massoud also appreciated the robust performance of the side that lacked the required resources and facilities. However, he said, the board was trying to provide the squad with all possible facilities at home and abroad.
