LASHKARGAH (PAN): Foreign troops have detained three members members of the Washer district social council, residents claimed on Saturday.
About 100 residents, protesting the arrests in Lashkargah, the provincial capital, called for the immediate release of the detainees.
A tribal elder from the district, Haji Aziz Ahmad, told Pajhwok Afghan News the men were arrested while staying as guests in the Dilaram district of Nimroz province last week.
He identified the social council members as Faiz Mohammad (treasurer), Haji Azim, deputy head of the development council, and Secretary Abdul Sattar. The elder added they had come to Lashkargah to meet authorities on why the council officials had been held.
Another tribal elder, Mohammad Ismail, said his brother Haji Azim was among the detainees. They would stage protests if the men were not freed, he warned.
An official, who did not want to be named, revealed the detainees had been transferred to the main prison in Lashkargah. The trio, currently under investigation, would be freed, if found innocent, he said.
