KANDAHAR (PANinfo-icon): The United State donated 74,000 books to the educationinfo-icon directorate of southern Kandahar province on Saturday, an official said.

The donation included 42,000 textbooks for students and 32,000 on other topics, said Jonathan A Dolton, a US embassy official.

Schools in the province were faced with a shortage of trained teachers, he told reporters at the governor’s house. He promised the US embassy would help train teachers.

Apart from assistance to the education sector, Dolton said they would help power supply and healthinfo-icon and health projects in the long term.

Shirin Agha Safi, the education director, thanked the US embassy representative for donating the books. He said the books would be distributed to schools across the province.
