Applications invited for Fulbright exchange programmes

Mar 18, 2013 - 19:53

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): US Ambassador to Afghanistaninfo-icon James B. Cunningham on Monday announced application-open season for four worldinfo-icon-class Fulbright exchange programmes.

In a statement from the US embassy, he highlighted the programme’s focus on promoting mutual understanding between the Americans and nations around the globe.

Fulbright is the US embassy’s flagship exchange programme and alumni have returned to become leaders across Afghanistan’s public and private sectors.

Since 2003, the embassy said, Fulbright programmes had provided 391 Afghans the opportunity to pursue professional and graduate-level study in the United States.

Academic year 2014-15 continues the trend of commitment toward the programmes to include opportunities for about 75 finalists and 25 alternates for the Master’s programme, eight Humphrey Fellows and four Foreign Language Teaching Assistants.

This also marks the second year that the Fulbright Doctoral program will be offered for Afghanistan. Last year, the embassy received 1,439 applications for the Fulbright programme.
