MoI for global group to fight terror in Pakistan

MoI for global group to fight terror in Pakistan

Mar 18, 2013 - 19:39

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): The Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Monday said an international group be deployed to Pakistaninfo-icon to dismantle terrorist hideouts in the neighbouring country’s border areas.

Ministry spokesman Ghulam Siddique Siddiqui said Afghanistaninfo-icon could not combat terrorism in the region single-handedly. The international community and victims of terror should help Pakistan eliminate the scourge, he suggested.

He said the presence of 30,000 seminaries in Waziristan, the Talibaninfo-icon’s Quetta Shurainfo-icon and other terrorist groups showed terrorists were not hiding in Afghanistan.

“We want the international community to take steps for eradicating terrorism outside Afghanistan’s borders,” Siddiqui added.

Also present on the occasion was ISAFinfo-icon spokesman Brig. Gen. Günter Katz, who said the UN-mandated mission of foreign forces was confined to Afghanistan.

Afghan and Pakistani officials should pay more attention to security challenges in border areas, he believed, saying that they had discussed the issue at trilateral meetings.
