KABUL): Six policemen were killed in insurgency-linked violence in central Maidan Wardak and northern Badakhshan provinces, an official and a witness said on Tuesday.

In Badakhshan, Taliban fighters attacked police posts in Ghani and Pul-i-Sarbala areas of the Warduj district last night, killing three personnel and injuring four others, the district chief said.

Daulat Mohammad Khawar told Pajhwok Afghan News the attack sparked a fierce gun-battle that continued until Tuesday morning.

He said the attackers had suffered casualties, but had no figures. Some rebel commanders were said to be missing after the clash, the official said.

Taliban’s spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid the fighters had seized six policemen’s bodies two police trucks into custody after storming seven posts.

Elsewhere, three policemen were killed in a bomb explosion in the Chak district of Maidan Wardak on Tuesday, said Basir, a resident of the area said. The slain security men belonged to northern Takhar province, he said.
