KABUL under-19 squad outclassed a Pakistani club in a friendly cricket match in the eastern city of Lahore, an official said on Saturday.
The Afghans are visiting the neighbouring country as part of their preparations in the lead-up to the ACC Elite Cup that begins in Indonesia in May.
The Khayaban-i-Amin Club won the toss and chose to field in Friday’s 50-over game, according to Afghanistan Cricket Board spokesman Farid Hotak.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News Afghanistan set a 268 runs target for the loss of seven wickets in the stipulated overs, with Younus Ahmadzai emerging top-scoring 69, followed by Nasir Jamal with 57.
Farid Malik contributed 32 and Muslim 22 runs, Hotak said, adding the rivals fell 88 runs short of the target and were bundled out for 179. Syed Sherzad took three wickets and Sharfuddin and Zahir Sherzada two wickets apiece.
The Afghan Cricket Board has sent the 21-member side to Lahore to select a 14-man team for the Elite Cup. They have played a number of limited overs games against several Pakistani clubs and have been undergoing a training camp since March 10.
