Afghans urge rebels to join peace process

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): Residents on Thursday protested linguistic, ethnic and sectarian differences in Kabul, urging religious scholars to issue a decree for ending the war in Afghanistaninfo-icon.

Dozens of people, who participated in the rally organised by the Afghans’ United Council, called for the Talibaninfo-icon to shun the insurgency and take part in the reconstructioninfo-icon of the country.

Chanting "Allah-o-Akbar (God is greatest) and “Long live Islam”, the participants condemned discrimination in all forms and took a swipe at those who justified suicide attacks in the country.

Syed Ahmad Shakeb Muntaziri, the chairman of the council, told reporters the rally aimed to denounce and remove ethnic differences among the Afghans.

In a declaration, they urged all Afghans to endeavor for unity to strengthening the country to deal with the challenges facing it. The peaceful demonstration started from Allauddin Square and ended in Deh Mazang area.
