ISAF claims killing, detaining insurgents

In Nahr-i-Saraj district of southern Helmand province today, Afghan and coalition forces arrested a senior Taliban-led force said.

“The leader is believed to exercise operational control over multiple insurgent cells throughout Helmand province, committing multiple attacks against Afghan and coalition forces…,” it added. 

Several fighters were killed during a search for a Taliban leader in the Chimtal district of northern Balkh province on Thursday. The rebel leader is allegedly the second highest Taliban official in the district, responsible for directing multiple attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.

According to the NATO-led force, the combined force also seized six motorcycles, two rocket-propelled grenade launchers with 12 rounds, multiple light machine guns and four drums of ammunition.

In Kandahar province, an Afghan and coalition security force detained two insurgents during an operation in search of a Taliban leader in Dand district. The leader has command and control responsibilities over a number of fighters dedicated to attacking Afghan and coalition forces.

A fighter was killed during an operation in search of a Haqqani leader in Sabari district of southeastern Khost province. The Haqqani leader is allegedly responsible for acquiring and distributing weapons to insurgents and leading rocket attacks against security personnel.
