KUNDUZ CITY (PAN): Police have arrested a seven-member gang of highwaymen and rescued two children from their kidnappers during separate operations in northern Kunduz province, officials said on Sunday.
The robbers were detained days after two passenger buses were looted by unknown gunmen on the Kunduz-Aliabad Highway, deputy police chief Col. Abdullah Talwar told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the detainees were involved in a number of robbery and kidnapping incidents and that their arrests would help improve security on the highway.
Another police official, Col. Waisuddin Talash, said police had rescued two children from their kidnappers during a search operation on the Kunduz-Baghlan Highway.
He said the children were taken into custody, but the kidnappers were able to flee.
The kids had left home three days ago due to a family dispute, their father Sardar Mohammad said.
He said police informed him on Sunday that his children had been found.
