Efforts launched to resolve Kuchi-Hazara tiff

Efforts launched to resolve Kuchi-Hazara tiff

Apr 05, 2013 - 16:20

MAIDAN WARDAK (PANinfo-icon): A government delegation on Thursday launched efforts to patch up a row between Kuchiinfo-icon and Hazara tribes in central Maidan Wardak province, an official said.

Despite efforts at the governmental level, the 30-year dispute between the tribes over the ownership of meadows in Daimirdad and Behsud districts has sparked several bloody clashes.

Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that President Karzai had dispatched a high-level team to the area to have a new shot at resolving the long-running problem.

Let by Karzai’s Advisor on Tribal Affairs Asadullah Wafa, the 24-member delegation arrived in Wardak on Thursday.

Wafa would meet both sides soon before briefing provincial officials and seeking their suggestions on how to permanently settle the dispute, the spokesman said.

Governor Abdul Majid Khogyani met with the delegation, hoping it would find a workable solution acceptable to both sides.
