KABUL (HPC) on Wednesday said both the government and rebels should show flexibility in their conditions for peace talks to reach a pivotal point in the process.

Mohammad Ismail Qasemyar, the international relations advisor for the council, said the government and insurgents should shun some of their conditions for the sake of a peaceful and stable Afghanistan.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News no compromise was acceptable on the country’s independence and sovereignty and that no one would be allowed to violate the constitution under the pretext of reaching political objectives.

Qasemyar, who was speaking at a round table in Kabul organised by civil society groups under title “Peace and Development in Afghanistan,” said if insurgents demanded some parts of the country as a condition for peace talks was impossible to be considered.

He said national sovereignty was something that could not be compromised under any circumstances, calling for the ongoing war to be converted into a political movement to reach a settlement. He said the rebels should avail exemptions in some areas under the reconciliation programme.

Other participants said the government and the international community had ignored social, cultural and economic issues facing the country.

They called for attention to the country’s economic development, human resources management, infrastructural projects and capacity building of government departments.
