PUL-I-ALAM (PAN on Thursday said they would soon take a decision in line with their investigations on the fate of the 11 helicopter crewmembers, Turkish engineers and pilots in their captivity.

On Sunday, the insurgents abducted eight Turks, a Russian, a Kyrgyz man and an Afghan after their helicopter made an emergency landing due to bad weather in the Azra district of central Logar province.

Having intensified their efforts to win the release of the hostages, tribal elders have been allowed by the captors to talk to the captives. Local officials expect an early breakthrough.

Zabihullah Mujahid, the militant movement’s spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News they were still probing the hostages. A decision on their fate would be taken soon, he said in a phone call from an undisclosed location.

He added the captives, one of whom is said to be a heart patient, were in good health. They were being held in a secure place within the country, Mujahid said, without giving further details.
