ISLAMABAD (PAN’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province (KPK) on Sunday morning.

Five people were killed and 16 others died when the office of independent candidate Syed Noor Akbar Alam came under attack on Hangu road in the garrison town of Kohat, city police chief Dilawar Bangash told reporters at the scene of the blast.

Damaging nearby shops, buildings and parked cars, the bomb had been planted outside the office, the district police officer said. The device contained at least 10 kilograms of explosive material.

Akbar, who escaped unhurt in the bombing that came 13 days ahead of the general election, is a candidate from the Orakzai tribal region near the Afghanistan border.

The office of the Awami National Party, which has received threats from the outlawed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, is also located in the area. But it was not damaged in the blast.

Elsewhere in the northwest, the election office of independent aspirant Nasir Khan — a former senator — was targeted on Charsadda road in Peshawar, the provincial capital.

Three people were killed and 15 others injured, police said, adding Khan escaped unhurt. The bomb had been rigged to a motorbike. The injured were evacuated to Lady Reading Hospital.
