Herat woman commits suicide

HERAT CITY (PAN): A woman has committed suicide in western Herat province, where two suspects have been detained in connection with the incident, a police official said on Sunday.

The young woman named Rahimi killed herself by taking poison in Payeen Aab area of the provincial capital, the official told Pajhwok Afghan News on condition of anonymity.

On complaints from the victim’s parents, police had taken Rahimi’s husband and father-in-law into custody, he said. The in-laws allegedly subjected the victim to frequent beatings.

During the current month, it is the first incident of violence against women Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) recorded six cases of women committing suicide or being killed.
