FARAH (PAN): Hundreds of people staged a protest against the killing of a moneychanger by two Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers in western Farah province on Monday, seeking punishment for the killers.
Abdul Qayyum was abducted by two soldiers on Saturday and his body was found in the Kafir Qala desert south of Farah City on Sunday, the moneychangers’ union told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The soldiers, who escaped to western Herat province, were detained by intelligence personnel on Sunday evening, said Col. Abdul Rauf Rahmani, a spokesman for the First Brigade of the Zafar Military Corps.
Closing their shops, many businesspeople joined the protestors, who gathered at the main mosque in the provincial capital. They would continue their protest if the killers remained unpunished, warned Dr. Mohammad Hashim Danish, a member of Farah City Council.
