KABUL’s southwestern Balochistan province, forcing the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to postpone the polls in the constituency, a media report said on Tuesday.
Abdul Fateh Magsi, an independent candidate from Jhal Magsi area, had been seized by unidentified gunmen on Monday night. His bullet-riddled body was found on Tuesday morning, Dawn reported.
Following his death, the election commission announced that the vote had been postponed in Jhal Magsi. New polling dates will be firmed up soon.
In the build-up to the May 11 polls, attacks on election contenders, their offices and public meetings have intensified. Scores of people have been killed in the assaults, most of which have been claimed by Pakistani Taliban.
