MAIMANA (PAN in the Pashtunkot district of northern Faryab province, an official said on Tuesday.

A group of armed rebels attacked a joint security post of ALP and border police in Ghar Tepa area on Monday evening, injuring two policemen, the town’s administrative head said.

Abdul Qadir Qadiri told Pajhwok Afghan News some of the attackers were also killed or wounded in retaliatory fire. However, he had no specific casualty figures.

As the security personnel lacked ammunitions, the rebels entered the check-post and took seven ALP officials hostage, Qadiri said. There was no immediate word on their whereabouts.

A Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, claimed three policemen were killed and five others injured in the clash.
