AIP director passes away

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): A senior journalist and director of the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP), Mohammad Yaqoob Sharafat, died in Pakistaninfo-icon’s northwestern city of Peshawar on Friday.

A nephew of renowned jihadi leader Maulviinfo-icon Muhammad Younas Khalis, Sharafat was known among Pakistani journalists for his initiative in setting up AIP in Peshawar in 1982 during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistaninfo-icon.

His funeral prayers would be offered at 5pm at Najmul Jihadinfo-icon Colony in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, a statement from AIP said.
