ASADABAD (PAN): Residents of Kamdesh and Barg-i-Matal districts on Tuesday asked the government to launch security operations against insurgents in the eastern province.

Dozens of tribal elders from the two districts shared their problems at a meeting with Governor Tamim Nuristani and asked him to order offensives in the towns as soon as possible.

Abdul Zahir Bahand, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the elders complained about the presence of Afghan, Arab and Pakistani militants in the province.

According to Bahand, Nuristani assured the elders he would convey their demand to interior and defence ministries.

The road leading to the two districts from Kunar was had been in control of fighters over the past seven years and government employees and dwellers could not travel it, said a resident of the Kamdesh district, Amanullah.
