CHARIKAR): One student was killed and three others were injured after a protest against the replacement of their school principal turned violent in the Bagram district of central Parwan province, officials said on Thursday.

The protest erupted after Jahesh, the school principal, was replaced with another official named Pacha, said Zalmai Shahid, the education director. It remained unknown who fired at the students, he said.

One of the injured identified as Mehrullah died of his wounds on the way to hospital, the education director said, adding gunmen belonging to Jahesh were also present at the demonstration.

Civil hospital director, Mohammad Qasim Syedi, said they had been delivered the dead body of an-18 year-old. The victim received two bullets in the chest, he said.

Police chief Brig. Gen. Abdul Rahman Sarjang confirmed three students were wounded in the incident that he said was being investigated. No arrests could be made so far, he said.
