GHAZNI (PANinfo-icon): Twenty-five foreign militants have been killed during an operation by Afghan security forces in the Giro district of southern Ghazni province, local officials claimed on Saturday.

Pakistani, Arab and Chechen militants were among the dead, the governor’s spokesman, Nabi Jan, told Pajhwok Afghan News.  The operation that began on Friday afternoon is still ongoing.

Resident Naeemullah said the insurgency had recently increased in the area, where security forces were conducting the clearing operations. However, he had no information about casualties.

A Talibaninfo-icon spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, confirmed the operation had inflicted casualties on fighters, but declined giving further details.
