KUNDUZ CITY (PAN): Information and culture officials of northern Kunduz province have handed three rare statues to the ministry concerned, voicing concern at lack of security at historical sites in the province.

Two statues, recovered by National Directorate of Security (NDS) officials, had been sent to the Ministry of Information, said a manager of historical objects, Najibullah Siddiqui.

One of the statues, dating back to the fist century, had been given to the Kabul Museum, Deputy Minister of Information and Culture Syed Musadiq Khalili said.

Unlike other provinces, Kunduz does not have a special police unit for the protection of historical objects, Siddiqui said. As a result, most of the 19 historical sites in Kunduz remain out of government’s control.
