KABUL’s southwestern Balochistan province, Pakistani media reported on Monday.

The bomber targeted the provincial police chief, Mushtaq Sukhera, who narrowly escaped Sunday night’s attack on his convoy in Quetta, Dawn.Com said.

About 1,000 kilos of explosives were used in the bombing that was followed by a rocket attack on the city. Police blamed insurgents for firing six rockets into Quetta from an undisclosed location.

Two policemen, three paramilitary soldiers and one passer-by were killed in the suicide bombing, according to Balochistan Home Secretary Akbar Durrani. He said 68 people were wounded.

Elsewhere in the country, 19 passengers were killed in an explosion on a minibus in the Mir Ali town of the North Waziristan tribal region near the Afghanistan border.

The ill-fated vehicle was carrying passengers from the Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Mir Ali subdivision. The nature of the blast was not immediately clear.
