ASADABAD (PAN): A woman in eastern in Kunar province was awarded the capital punishment on the charge of beating her daughter-in-law to death.
Abetted by her husband Aslat Khan and sons Rahmanullah and Ghatol, Bibi Shireena convict had killed Ayesha at her house in Narang district two months back.
At the end of an open trial, Shireena was handed down the death penalty, while her spouse and sons were sentenced each to seven years in prison.
In his arguments, Prosecutor Mohammad Gul sought the maximum punishment for the accused under Article 395 of the Penal Code, because the crime had been substantiated by witnesses.
Judge Mir Zaman handed down the judgment after hearing arguments from both sides. The convicts reserved the right to challenge the decision in a higher court, he added.
On the other hand, defence counsel Azim Khan rejected the prosecutor’s claim as baseless. While calling the judgment unjust, he insisted his clients had been the victims of a conspiracy.
