KABUL and Oman agreed to establish a joint commission for strengthening bilateral relations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Thursday.

During his two-day trip to Oman, Zalmay Rassoul and his delegation met Ruler of Oman Sultan Qaboos, Deputy Prime Minister Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said and Minister of Foreign Affairs Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah.

During the two-day visit, Rassoul and his team also held talks with Minister of Diwan of Royal Court Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal al Busaidi, a statement from the ministry said.

Rassoul said there was a good chance for Afghanistan to have closer relations with regional and Islamic countries, including Oman.

According to the statement, he said the geographical location and natural resources of Afghanistan could play a crucial role in boosting the regional economy.

Rassoul and Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah agreed on preparing and signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in different fields.

The two sides also agreed to establish a joint commission for working on a framework for deeper cooperation.
